Major’s Meeting

Thank you to our awesome students for joining us at our first major’s meeting of the semester. It was great getting to see so many new faces! Thank you to our AIGA executive board for their presentation and for introducing themselves as well as for discussing some fun upcoming events. We will keep you posted on the events and activities. Make sure to follow our Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest pages. And we were so grateful for Jenney Ruby, SUVisualArts graduate from spring 2015 for speaking to the group. We very much appreciate your insight and for sharing your experience with James Avery in the “real world”!

AIGA National Conference

The AIGA National Conference is QUICKLY approaching! Several faculty members and five ComDes majors will be traveling to Las Vegas in October to enjoy fellowship and be awed and inspired by the likes of Sean Adams, Dana Arnett, Diogenes Brito, and many more… as well as to watch – live and on stage – AIGA’s Command X!

Majors Meeting

Major’s Meeting! Join your fellow ComDes majors at our first meeting of the semester. Special guest, Jenney Ruby, a 2015 alum will be speaking about her experiences and offer some applicable – and very real world – advice to you. If this is your first meeting, this is a great way to get to know your faculty, other majors of all levels, and to learn more about AIGA. We will have door prizes and food!

Department Happenings – Command X4 Winners

What a great day! We enjoyed some sun, food, fun, handed out t-shirts (designed by our t-shirt contest winner Mackenzie Wade), and announced the big winners of the Command X4 Earth Day Design Challenge. We had 10 students compete and 5 earned spots to join the Visual Arts Department faculty at the AIGA National Conference in Las Vegas this October. The faculty, along with the help of our awesome students, will be hosting a hospitality suite at the AIGA National Conference. We are so proud of all the students that participated… AND the students who will be enjoying the sights of Vegas are: Elizabeth Stone, Michaela Lehman, Mackenzie Ward, Kaitlyn Laymon, and Michael Woods. We are so excited about the fall trip! Vegas… BABY!

Command X4 – The Event

IMG_1990We want to say thank you to our students, faculty, and industry professionals who participated in our very first Command X4 Design Challenge!

We had a lot of food, nervous students, and 4 Earth Day themed Design Challenges. The challenges included a logo design, poster design, billboard design, and wayfinding design. Each challenge lasted 30 minutes. At the end of the 30 minutes, students had 1 minute to present their designs to the jury. The students were “graded” on multiple criteria, based on the challenge. We tallied the total points for all 4 challenges. The students with the highest cumulative points will earn a trip to attend the AIGA National Conference in October in Las Vegas. We are very excited to share this opportunity with our deserving, hard working, talented, and dedicated students!

The winners will be announced at our major’s meeting on Wednesday, May 4th.

Department Happenings – Senior Show

Congratulations to our seniors Samantha Meyer, De Hetherington, and Natalie Thompson! They hosted a great Senior Show exhibition in the CCAC on Tuesday evening. If you weren’t able to make it out for the opening, make sure to visit the CCAC this week to see their work. They have worked hard this semester to produce their theses and it shows!
